Armoring Up: 7 Ways to Stand Strong in Your Faith

Insights from The Weekly REBOOT

By: Bryan Flanery

In the journey of faith, life’s challenges can feel relentless—doubts, temptations, and unexpected detours that test our strength. But God has given us the tools to not just survive, but stand firm and thrive. Inspired by a recent sermon on the Armor of God, here’s a practical, daily guide to forging and wielding your own spiritual armor.

1. Buckle the Belt of Truth: Ground Yourself in God’s Word

Truth is the foundation of everything. Like a belt that holds the armor together, God’s truth stabilizes our lives. Forge it by immersing yourself in Scripture daily. Set aside time to read, reflect, and journal verses that speak to you. Let God’s truth shape your perspective, guide your decisions, and become the filter through which you see the world.

2. Wear the Breastplate of Righteousness: Choose Integrity Daily

Righteousness is both a gift from Christ and a lifestyle we choose. Strengthen your breastplate by living with integrity—big and small. Align your actions with God’s standards, and when you fall short, repent quickly. Try setting daily goals for kindness, honesty, or service, building up your armor through consistent, righteous living.

3. Lace Up the Shoes of Readiness: Be Bold in Sharing Hope

The gospel is meant to be carried, not just kept. Prepare your “gospel shoes” by being ready to share your faith at a moment’s notice. Start small—maybe post a testimony or share a verse with a friend. Stay alert for divine appointments throughout your day, whether on your commute, in a coffee shop, or in casual conversation. Be ready to bring hope wherever you go.

4. Raise the Shield of Faith: Trust God with Your Battles

Faith is your defense against the enemy’s lies and fear. Strengthen it by remembering God’s past faithfulness—journal answered prayers, reflect on spiritual victories, and celebrate His presence in your life. Surround yourself with faith-building community, worship often, and speak truth over your doubts. Let your shield grow stronger each time you choose to trust Him.

5. Put on the Helmet of Salvation: Guard Your Mind

Our thoughts shape our reality. Protect your mind by anchoring it in your identity in Christ. Recite affirmations rooted in Scripture. Fill your heart and mind with truth through faith-filled content—books, music, and community. Let the assurance of your salvation silence the whispers of insecurity and fear.

6. Wield the Sword of the Spirit: Speak God’s Word Boldly

God’s Word is more than encouragement—it’s a weapon. Learn it. Memorize it. Use it. Whether you're praying, facing temptation, or encouraging someone else, let Scripture be your go-to response. Try learning a new verse each week, and don’t just read it—declare it. The sword is most effective when it’s actively used.

7. Pray Without Ceasing: Stay Connected to the Source

Though not a physical piece of armor, prayer is what empowers all the rest. Make it part of your rhythm—while you’re driving, cooking, walking, or winding down. Build a prayer strategy that includes praise, gratitude, intercession, and listening. Prayer keeps your spiritual armor strong and your heart aligned with God.

Armor Up and Walk in Victory

Putting on the full armor of God isn’t just a metaphor—it’s a daily discipline. It requires intention, consistency, and a heart open to growth. But as we suit up each day, we’re reminded that we don’t fight alone. Victory has already been won through Christ. So let’s rise up, forge our armor, and face each battle knowing we’re equipped to stand strong.
